Active Research
Want to make an impact and share your voice in neurodivergent and mixed identity research? You've come to the right place.
I'm currently leading several research studies:
Neurodivergent Womyn+'s Work and Non-Work Friendships.
Mixed Womyn+ Identity, Work, and Leadership Survey
Neurodivergent Womyn+of the Global Majority Work and
Non-Work Friendships:Part 2
Designated Veteran Caregiver Experience Survey
About "womyn+": This research uses "womyn+" — a feminist spelling that includes trans women, non-binary people, and anyone who identifies with womanhood or feminine experience.
About "women of the global majority": A demographic term referring to women who are Black, Brown, or Indigenous, and those of African, Asian, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, or mixed heritage — collectively representing approximately 80% of the world's population.
Neurodivergent Womyn+'s Work and Non-Work Friendships
An anonymous quantitative research survey exploring how neurodivergent womyn+ experience friendships, relationships, and communication across work and non-work contexts.
This survey takes approximately 12–15 minutes to complete and closes April 30th, 2026.
Neurodivergent Womyn+of the Global Majority Work and
Non-Work Friendships:
Part 2
A community research study in collaboration with the Neurodiversity Foundation.
This is the second phase of a two-part study examining how neurodivergent womyn+ of the global majority experience work friendships, communication, and well-being. Part 1 was a quantitative survey. Part 2 uses individual interviews to explore specific moments and experiences in greater depth.
Interviews are conducted via Zoom and take approximately 60 minutes. Audio is recorded for transcription purposes only. Video is not recorded.
This study is designed for neurodivergent womyn+ of the global majority — including Black, Afro-Latina, Afro-Indigenous, mixed-race, and other global majority womyn+. Participants who do not meet the inclusion criteria will not be eligible to schedule an interview.
Designated Veteran Caregiver Experience Survey
This survey documents the lived experiences of designated veteran caregivers — the support gaps, the daily life impact, and what whole-family care actually needs to look like in practice. It asks directly about what support has looked like, what has actually helped, and what caregivers would want from programs and communities designed with them in mind.
Findings will be shared publicly through The Unfolding Room™ and will directly shape future research, conversations, and events built around caregiver needs.
The survey takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete. All responses are anonymous and reported in aggregate only.
This survey is for anyone who is currently or has previously served as the designated caregiver for a military veteran — formally or informally recognized as the primary caregiver for a veteran's physical, emotional, or daily needs.
Mixed Womyn+'s Identity, Work, and Leadership Survey
An anonymous, community-based survey centering Afro-Latina, Afro-Indigenous, mixed, and culturally layered womyn+ experiences across identity, belonging, work, and leadership. The survey asks about how mixed and culturally layered womyn+ are perceived, what support has been available versus what they have had to create for themselves, and what it means to hold multiple cultural identities in spaces that were not built to hold all of who they are.
Findings will be shared in aggregate through The Unfolding Room™ at the end of June 2026. Participants who want to receive results can email itzely@theunfoldingroom.co with the subject line "Mixed Survey Results." All responses are anonymous. No identifying information is collected.
The survey is open to womyn+ who identify with more than one racial, ethnic, or cultural background — including but not limited to Afro-Latina, Afro-Indigenous, biracial, multiracial, mixed-race, and those who hold multiple cultural identities within their families, communities, or daily lives.
